To all of you who grew up in the 90′s, I have a question:
Remember the Skip It? I loved that thing to death. For a whole summer, one of my life goals was to get that counter to 999 in one sitting. Sadly, they no longer produce that icon version of the Skip It. After a few years, they started selling lame-o knock offs with NO COUNTER! Instead they produced boring ones where you could put stickers on them, or bounce them or other stupid things. What gives Hasbro? I know those were your idea.
When it comes to redesigning the Skip It, all attempts have fallen flat. Subsequent versions haven’t engaged users the same way as the 90′s version (the toy was originally invented in the 80′s, but the counter was added later). So okay, maybe the Skip It needs an upgrade. But what could be done to engage the user the same way as the counter? More importantly, what could be changed and still hold a kid’s interest for more than five minutes? Because that was the beauty of Skip Its— you just kept going.
I, Ladies and Gentlemen, have figured it out. And the answer is one word: Chalk.
Yep, that stuff you color with on the sidewalk. Just think about it…. Skip It + Sidewalk Chalk = Awesomely Cool Circles. You would become a human protractor! Having a hard time envisioning just what I mean? Check it out:
So yes, I am going to make a Chalk-It. It’s going to happen people. Be prepared for amazingness.
